Scientists Discover New Ice Age Caused by Excessive Polar Bear Selfies

The world is experiencing an unprecedented cooling trend, with temperatures plummeting faster than a Kardashian’s relevance after a cheating scandal. While scientists are scrambling to explain this sudden shift, a chilling new theory has emerged: polar bear selfies.

“It appears our furry friends in the Arctic have developed a rather…unfortunate addiction,” declared Dr. Penelope Chillyhands, head climatologist at the Institute for Very Important Stuff (IVIS). “We’ve observed a dramatic rise in polar bear selfie activity documented on a newly discovered social media platform called ‘Glaciergram.'”

According to Dr. Chillyhands, scientists analyzed billions of blurry polar bear selfies (apparently, even apex predators struggle with good lighting) and discovered a shocking correlation. As the number of selfies increased, global temperatures dipped lower. “[The data] is undeniable,” Dr. Chillyhands shivered, clutching a mug of lukewarm cocoa. “Each selfie seems to emit a mysterious ‘coolness radiation’ that counteracts global warming.”

Experts believe the polar bear selfie craze began innocently enough. A curious cub with a penchant for pawing at discarded smartphones stumbled upon the wonders of self-documentation. Soon, every ice floe became a runway, and every seal carcass a makeshift selfie stick (although, considering the blubbery texture, perhaps “selfie blub” is a more accurate term).

The “science” behind the cooling phenomenon is as bizarre as the trend itself. Apparently, a polar bear’s intense focus on capturing their best angle – think “smizing” while balancing on a precariously thin ice sheet – creates a unique quantum entanglement with the Earth’s atmosphere. This entanglement disrupts the flow of heat-trapping greenhouse gasses, causing them to, well, lose their cool.

The unforeseen consequences of the ice age are as dramatic as a Kardashian meltdown. Penguins are now waddling down Miami Beach, demanding fruity cocktails. Palm trees are sporting knitted scarves, and tourists are flocking to the tropics for a taste of the “authentic” Arctic experience (complete with complimentary parkas).

Social media platforms, unsurprisingly, remain mum on the issue. Sources speculate Glaciergram is enjoying a surge in “ice-fluencers,” with polar bears hawking everything from waterproof mascara to sustainable iceberg-shaped ice trays. We reached out to Glaciergram for comment, but all we received was an automated message offering us a 20% discount on a “Glacier Glow” filter.

But here’s the real shocker: it’s all a hoax. You see, the point isn’t the polar bear selfies (although, that mental image is truly terrifying). The point is that climate change is real, and denying it is about as effective as wearing a fishnet stocking as a mosquito net.

So, the next time you feel the urge to endlessly document your avocado toast brunch or complain about the weather on Facebook, take a deep breath and consider the polar bears. Maybe put down the phone and write your congressman, or donate to a cause fighting climate change. Because let’s face it, a world dominated by selfie-obsessed polar bears sounds way less fun than a healthy planet filled with actual sunshine.

Unless, of course, those polar bears are rocking some seriously fire sunglasses. Then, maybe we can make it work.
